Before becoming Bally's, this building was the MGM Grand, site of a large fire in the early 1980s.
Parts of "Honeymoon in Vegas" were filmed in Bally's. It's a very nice looking property but is getting old and
has a small casino. The rooms have been said to be not quite as good as the Luxor's... and the Luxor rooms are
very average. However, we stayed at Ballys in March 2005 and thought the room was nicer than the Luxor's (where we've stayed
three times.) The Ballys room was a bit more "worn out" but also larger in size. The central strip location is very good, however. Bally's looks very nice at night with lots of
different colored lighting. If you take photos during your trip to Las Vegas, you have to go by Ballys at night.
There is a great shot many people aren't aware of... after you take the moving walkway towards the casino, there's
a place where you can get off and get a "reverse" shot of the neon tube (2nd photo above.)
Amenities include AM/FM alarm clock (whoopie!), bar/lounge, beach, barber/beauty shop,
business center, express checkout, golf, hairdryers, mini bar, modem lines.
We stayed at Ballys in March 2005, it was nicer than expected. The room size is larger than average and the room I was in offered
a spectacular view of the south strip. (We reserved the room online at their web site about 3 weeks earlier, and requested a
south strip view.) Bally's and Luxor are probably the two best "budget priced" strip hotels.
