Las Vegas Photos #10 A Short Trip to the Center Strip - February 2010
Las Vegas series #10 pictures were taken February 17 & 18, 2010; mostly on Las Vegas Blvd. between Desert Inn Rd. and Harmon Ave.
and along East Flamingo Road. At 139 photos, this is our smallest series of Las Vegas photos. Our intention was to highlight
the newly opened CityCenter, but we were disappointed to see that it isn't quite as open as we thought it was. While three
of the hotels have been taking reservations and are open for business, the place is still dark at night and appears lifeless.
We stayed at Bill's Gamblin' Hall and Saloon (formerly Barbary Coast) for this trip since it is very inexpensive but has fantastic
reviews on tripadvisor.com. And we've never stayed there before. We were suprised to see that our king bed room at $40 per night was just about
as large and nice as the more expensive rooms we've had at Encore and Mandalay Bay. However, the property
is an old, smokey downtown style place with very slow elevators. Not a place to take the wife or girlfriend
but fantastic for the frequent Las Vegas visitor who likes being center strip and values room quality over
all else.
The Las Vegas strip has remained almost completely unchanged since our last visit in June 2009, so many photos appear
to be duplicates from series 9. The Fountainbleu (which we erroneously labled as Crown in Series 9) is still under construction;
Echelon is still on hold at the old Stardust site; there's still nothing at the Westward Ho and Frontier sites; and CityCenter
for all appearances is still under construction. There is a new pedestrian overpass across Las Vegas Blvd. at Harmon Ave. though.
