A full moon behind Mandalay Bay

Mandalay Bay - 3950 Las Vegas Blvd. South, Las Vegas, Nevada 89119. Phone 877-632-7800

Rated by The Travel Channel (in 2004) as the best Las Vegas vacation resort (considering gaming, price, amenities, activities, etc.) in Las Vegas. You'll find The House of Blues, Rock Lobster, Red Square, Aureole, a shark reef and fake beach all on the Mandalay Bay property. Red Square is famous for its bar that has a frozen solid sheet of ice on top, to keep your drink cold; and its array of vodka selections. However, we stopped by there once and it looked like some ultra-fancy place where you need to wear a tuxedo and make reservations; so we never went in.

While some visitors to Las Vegas may think that the location (Mandalay Bay is currently the southernmost property on the strip) is not desireable, this is a huge resort with plenty to keep you busy, and there are several other properties within a mile or so (Luxor, Tropicana, MGM Grand, Excalibur and NY NY). I have not been a guest at Mandalay Bay but have visited their casino several times. They have very friendly staff and one of the largest casinos on the strip. If you have time, stop by and we're sure you'll enjoy it.

UPDATE: We checked into a 550DR (the smallest size) strip view room in December 2008 and absolutely loved it. Mandalay Bay room quality is comparable to the higher priced Encore at Wynn, where we stayed in June 2009.
