We stayed at Treasure Island in December 2007; it's a lot like Mirage since it was built as a second room tower for Mirage. Steve Wynn changed his mind during construction and made it into a full resort hotel property. Mirage and TI were both sold to MGM MIrage; then Treasure Island was sold to Phil Ruffin for $775 million in December 2008. The situation seems to have been that MGM Mirage needed a bit of extra cash to complete construction of their Project City Center, which is now completed and occupies the area between Monte Carlo and Bellagio. Rooms at Treasure Island are a bit smaller than expected and plainer than expected, but the location is excellent, right next to Fashion Show Mall; across the street from Venetian, Palazzo, Wynn and Encore at Wynn; and a short walk to the center strip (Caesars Palace, Flamingo, Mirage.) The first time we ever played craps (dice) was at Treasure Island. We were betting $5 on "pass" and the shooter turned our $5 into $70. He crapped out and nobody else wanted the dice, so we tried... and threw the dice off the table, twice. It was embarrassing. We knew that they had to bounce off the back wall to be a legal throw - but we threw too high.
